The Top Line: This place has a really good atmosphere and decent quality food, although the portion sizes vary a lot across each menu item and it edges on the pricey side. If you’re in the area, go for it! (probably the only place you’ll find around there anyway).
The Review: After an intense one hour of trampolining at Skyzone in Alexandria, I was looking forward to my dinner at the Rocks Brewing Co, which was a convenient 2 minute walk from Skyzone. So I thought I would be eating in no time…
30 minutes later: Still spending an incredibly long time staring at the menu and being indecisive over what I want to eat.
So I finally decided on the King Prawn Smoked Salmon Salad from the Specials board ($18)
The flavours in this was amazing and there was such a generous amount of sauce. I got four peeled king prawns and some slices of smoked salmon. My only complaint about this dish was that there was NOT ENOUGH rocket leaves/variety of vegetables to make this a good hearty salad. Also the sauce may have been too much on the heavy side as to make one feel like the salad that they’re eating is not actually healthy/refreshing.
I also managed to try the Lamb Ragu with Gnocchi ($18)
Ok this dish excited me very much. The lamb was braised til the flavours infused with the meat and the meat was melt-in-your-mouth worthy. The gnocchi was light, pillowy and yeah, it was like eating a cloud. I really enjoyed the flavours but I think they should’ve called this a gnocchi dish with lamb instead of lamb with gnocchi, simply because there was more gnocchi than lamb..
Brisket Works Brioche Burger ($19)
From what I saw the burgers meals are the ones to go for if you are hungry. The addition of the waffle chips were extra exciting 🙂 Extra texture, extra crunch!
Vegetarian Pumpkin Salad ($16)
This one comes with the option to add chicken or lamb and in hindsight I would’ve loved to order this salad instead because it was much lighter with a more refreshing sauce, however, it won’t leave you hungry because of the generous pumpkin pieces, cheese chunks and pine nuts. The flavours in this salad worked very well.
So this place actually brews their own beers (you can see their giant metal brewers just behind the restaurant) and I did see a lot of workers go there after work and talk over a beer, but there’s nothing wrong with going there for a good dinner after an intense trampoline workout either 🙂
