Sakura Japanese Kitchen – Town Hall

Sakura Japanese Kitchen on Urbanspoon

The Top Line: If you’re out and about in Sydney CBD and craving some Japanese food, then Sakura Japanese Kitchen is the place to go. Their sushi rolls are around $6 – $8 and their lunch sets ranges from $10 – $15. Its small and cosy seating area gives it a very homely atmosphere which is great to escape the busy bustling city outside!

The Review: Having seen it plenty of times as I get off the bus to Town Hall station and they always seem to constantly have a line outside, I was keen to try this place. They have a small seating area at the front of the restaurant and another out the back which was a lot more spacious. We ordered karaage and soft shell crab lunch set which were served with a bowl of miso, rice and salad.

Soft shell crab served with salad, miso and rice ($15?)

The soft shell crab was slightly disappointing. Having read good reviews about the soft shell crab roll, I was expecting a more crunchier batter. However, the soft shell crab pieces were huge! I was very full by the end of the meal and could barely finish it. I might give this dish another chance next time or the soft shell crab rolls – or maybe both? Who knows~

Karaage served with salad, miso and rice ($12)

The karaage was done very nicely, crisp on the outside while tender and juicy on the inside. Even though I usually prefer seafood dishes over meaty ones, I definitely prefer this over the soft shell crab that day.
