I really enjoy the look of Old Town HK in Chinatown. It’s a great place to get all your dim sim / congee and classic hong kong dishes in a clean, roomy and authentic environment, without the rush of trolleys or shouting workers. Table service was fast and efficient.
I ordered a preserved egg and pork congee because I recently had a wisdom tooth removed and this was the only thing that didn’t required chewing. Objectively, it was really nice and there were generous portions of century egg and pork pieces. The bowl was also MASSIVE and very satisfying for lunch for $11.50 (true, it may not be worth it for literal rice in water but some days call for congee).
C, who was dining with me, ordered a gan chao niu he (stir fried beef rice noodles) with a iced HK milk tea – a classic combination. I thought the milk tea was great, but C thought it was too milky… The noodles were cooked and seasoned very well and, again, the portion was massive. We both finished our meal with a full belly and still money left in our wallets.
This was the second time I had come to Old Town Hong Kong and will be returning each time for their congee.
